| The
Audubon Expedition Institute offers an extraordinary educational journey.
AEI's philosophy comes directly from years of creating and living
in our unique educational environment - North America. The journey,
which began as an educational experiment twenty five years ago, has
become a sought after educational model.Nature has always been and
continues to be our best teacher. The places we have visited, and
the people who inhabit them, have guided our curriculum. AEI has changed
and grown as environmental and student needs have changed. The lessons
have been transforming, and through our experiences we have created
an academic program that speaks to the environmental and educational
needs of today.
AEI
offers an opportunity to actively experience nature and people as
parts of a whole. The Institute's program fosters a thorough understanding
of the world of plant, animal, air, earth, and spirit - the world
where community, relationships, and life are of primary importance.Through
small-community living, AEI challenges students to experience and
examine life. By using the school community as a microcosm of larger
systems, students learn to apply fresh insights and skills from
their lives both to the political and social structure of society,
and to the workings of natural systems.Audubon's program promotes
educational excellence through structured self-directed field studies,
hands-on experience, and traditional academics.
AEI
integrates challenging outlooks with progressive ways of learning
in nature to encourage the evolution of independent thinking, self-discovery,
and scholastic competency. Each student is encouraged to cultivate
individual spiritual growth. Developing a spiritual relationship
with the environment is of primary importance in understanding the
inherent connections between people, nature, and culture. AEI encourages
a lifestyle that leads to the integration of humanity and nature.
By providing ethical, philosophical, and practical skills development
in ecological studies, we prepare the individual for a life of service
as a global citizen.
AEI invites students to consider that their physical, emotional,
intellectual, and spiritual well-being can lead to global health.
The environment becomes your educator as you immerse yourself in
the study of culture and nature. The faculty members guide students
in expanding their communication skills and broadening their environmental
outlook. Each student's vision is cultivated through direct
contact with diverse cultural groups, studies in nature, idea exchanges
among students and faculty, and analysis of expedition experiences.
